LOUD OMG! sounds exactly like my cat sharpening its claws on my carpet - the boiling sound comes in little pops, random rhythym. You can only throw so many shoes at your cat in one night before you get up and turn the dammed thing off.
Customer Review: Not so great
We use it to humidify our 400SF bedroom at night. This will be our third winter. I honestly do not detect a great difference in humidity. The unit is easy to fill, and looks pretty nice for what it is, but frankly it’s poorly engineered. For example, one has to be careful how one picks up the unit (all by the base) because the major components are not fastened together, or worse (to me) fastened in a very flimsy way. I do not like how there’s a secondary reservoir that is fairly easy to spill, such that water ponds in the bottom of the unit. Moreover, the main reservoir has a flat bottom inside and is virtually not possible to completely drain out. One has to struggle to drain it 99%, then leave the reservoir without its cap in the hot sun to dry out completely. The reservoir is like a large bottle and is therefore not accessible for cleaning. Scum/mold will build up on this bottom unless one cleans it very regularly with a disinfectant solution such as bleach. Calcic deposits build up, which are a pain to clean off, but other than looking kind of disgusting, don’t seem to be really that much a problem in its functioning. Finally, at full tilt, it’s pretty noisy, as the heating element boils the water.
